Learning music theory is an excellent way to grow as a producer and musician. This course, by music teacher Joshua Carney, reveals how to apply music theory concepts in your music productions... without leaving the comfort of your DAW!
Learning music theory has many benefits: it lets you express your musical ideas more easily, it strengthens your communication with other musicians and can greatly improve your listening skills. In short, learning music theory lets you speak, write and understand the language of music. But like learning any new language, it can be tricky to know where to start, especially if you've never played a traditional musical instrument (like guitar, piano, etc.) and are using a DAW to create music. This is where this "Music Theory for DAW Musicians" course comes in. This course, specifically designed for DAW musicians and producers, is the missing link between learning your DAW and discovering music theory!
Joshua starts the course by explaining how to name and identify notes, both on the musical staff and in your DAW's piano roll. He explains everything you need to know about accidentals (sharps and flats), tones and semitones. After teaching about pitch, he moves to rhythm. You learn all the different rhythm values and meters, and how they relate to grid editing.
With the help of the Circle of Fifths, you learn to build major and minor scales (including the melodic and harmonic minor scales) from scratch in the piano roll in all the different tonalities. You also discover how to build chords, create harmonies, create flowing chord progressions... and more!
So learn to connect the dots between your DAW and music theory concepts... Join Joshua Carney in this music theory journey now!
Joshua Carney has done a great job in this course. If you’re able to put down the smartphone or other distractions in your life that you may have then you’re in the right place to learn how to turbo charge your bedroom producer career. This course together with the Advanced Music Theory for DAW Musicians puts you on the right path to create outstanding music compositions.
J.C covers the basics from the DAW piano roll or music notation (for the classically trained). Everything is covered from scales, chords, inversions and chord progressions. The circle of fifths is also covered giving you a complete method for creating progressions easily.
The music theory covered will give you a firm foundation in your DAW compositions and help you create songs that have strong chord progressions that take the listener on a musical journey.
Grab yourself both courses in the series and rocket your productions to a higher level and standout from the crowd.
The DAW approach to music theory is a good thing and these other courses previously done may need a DAW music theory touch. The courses that could be candidates for this teaching approach are;
• Building Chord Progressions
Once these above are updated, that would create a potent music theory pack for DAW musicians.

Thanks for a great course Josh! Some very useful information, particularly in the videos on the melodic and and harmonic minor scales and those on harmony. I'll need to go over these again and do plenty of practice before I'm comfortable with the theory.
I was just about to ask if you could to do an advanced course, but I see you've already done it! look forward to taking it soon.
